Lagos - Five more bodies have been recovered following clashes in the southwest Nigerian town of Irawo, in Oyo State, bringing the death toll to 11, police said Wednesday.
"Five bodies were recovered on Tuesday in the town," a senior police officer in the commissioner's office in Ibadan, the state capital, told reporters.
Clashes erupted on Sunday when youths allegedly found the corpse of a missing woman in the residence of a prominent local leader, police said.
The woman was believed to have been the victim of a ritual killing.
Six people were reported to have lost their lives during the unrest that followed the discovery of her body and about 20 others were injured in the town, 50km from the state capital.
The police officer said fighting had continued into Tuesday morning before the police were able to quell it.
He said about 30 houses have been burnt down during the violence.
